Entomology
Entomology has played a part in the Academy of Natural Sciences since its founding in 1812. The department's collections hold approximately four million insect specimens, of which more than 11,000 are primary types. Current research in the department focuses on the the taxonomy, systematics, biogeography, and behavior of worldwide Orthoptera and Tipuloidea, and the survey of aquatic insects in Mongolia.
