Members of the media are invited to preview the new Dinosaurs Unearthed exhibit featuring lifelike animatronic dinosaurs at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University before it opens to the public. It opens to the public for its East Coast debut on Saturday, Oct. 12.
A 40-foot-long animatronic T. rex will be set up on the sidewalk outside the Academy’s front door on Ben Franklin Parkway for the length of the exhibit.
Full-size Jurassic Period skeletons, a comprehensive collection of real fossils and fossil casts, hands-on activities, and compelling stories about dinosaur behavior and appearance combine for an engaging experience for visitors of all ages. The exhibit, created by Dinosaurs Unearthed, closes March 30.
Academy Vice President for Collections Dr. Ted Daeschler, who is a paleontologist, will open the preview with give brief remarks. Academy educators will have a touch cart of fossils to demonstrate enhancements to the visitor experience.
