Animal Grossology
May 16–August 30, 2015
Animal Grossology is the slimiest, stinkiest, and downright yuckiest exhibit you will find in Philadelphia in 2015! Based on Sylvia Branzei’s best-selling children’s book series Grossology, this hands-on 3-D exhibit oozes with disgusting science and provides a slightly off-kilter view of the animal kingdom. Learn why cows chew cud and why snail and slug slime might provide scientists with more insight into treating cystic fibrosis. From poop to pellets and scales to hairballs, check out all the things you aren’t allowed to discuss at the dinner table!

Animal Grossology Activities, May 18–August 30, 2015 (*Dates and times may vary)
During the run of Animal Grossology, we’re offering lots of disgusting science throughout the museum. Some activities are scheduled daily, and others take place on special days throughout the week. You may experience:
“Ew!! That Comes from Where?!” Cart of Curiosity
Learn how seemingly gross animals are helpful to humans. Take a look at animal products with “gross” origins, such as honey, silk, perfume, kopi luwak (a type of coffee), and more. Plus get information about the medicinal and therapeutic benefits of gross animals. Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to visit when our live maggots are out and about!*
Dissection Wednesdays (10 a.m.–1 p.m.)
Every Wednesday (and select special weekends*) watch a dissection of a worm, squid, urchin, cow eye, or some other fascinatingly disgusting animal.
Reptiles on Saturdays and Tuesdays
Meet our weird and wonderful live reptiles at our Carts of Curiosity!
Daily Invertebrate Cart
Get an up close look at our live (and often gross) invertebrates.
Cart of Curiosity: The Power of Poop
Match the (rubber) scat to its animal originator, figure out why excrement is exciting and important, and learn about the pooping patterns of animals.
Ask Questions
Our educators will be circulating in the Animal Grossology exhibit—and they’re ready to talk science. Have pressing questions? Find an educator and ask!
Movie in the Auditorium
Feet getting sore? Relax in our cool auditorium as you enjoy a gross film.
