<p>The initiating group of three, i. e. E. T. Cresson, Sr., James Ridings and George Newman called an organization meeting, the pledge being signed by the 15 persons present (with four others added later) on February 22, 1859, as founders. On February 11, 1867 the name was unanimously changed to the American Entomological Society, because it was the only society in the U. S. devoted entirely to this subject.</p>
