<p>In 1889 the Academy was given a collection of insects to be known as the &#8220;T. R. Peale Collection.&#8221; This is housed in 98 &#8220;book boxes&#8221; of a type used in the old Peale's Museum, and some bear the label of that museum. The boxes were made so tight - sealed with lead foil - that the collection is still in practically perfect condition. He acquired the insects by personal collecting, exchange and purchase between 1831 and 1881. The bequest from the heirs is noted in the Academy's <emph render="italic">Proceedings, </emph>1889, v. 41, p. 435. Relating to this collection are the following papers (1) Large bound catalog of the Peale collection of insects, with a classified index (2) Typed list of the species, arranged by box numbers, prepared by E. T. Cresson, Jr. (3) A list of species pasted in the back of each box, giving its contents. These lists are in Peale's hand, and contain notes on collections, place, date, and miscellaneous data on ecology, etc.</p>
