Some of the speeches were published in full, many were not. His ability to give a scholarly and accurate presentation created a demand for his frequent participation. Oftentimes he depended on mere outline notes on a scrap of paper, long since lost. Most deal with systematic aspects of botany, others discuss speciation, geographical distribution, field work and biographical facts about botanists.
