Come find out why science is Naturally Awesome! Visit the Academy on select dates to enjoy a themed family-led activity, auditorium program and take-home craft kit to show off all the awesome science that we have to offer. Pick up your activity mini-guide when you enter, and then explore the museum at your own pace with your family and friends. Take in a film or presentation in the auditorium to learn more about the topic of the day, and be sure to grab your craft supplies to continue the fun at home. Families with children ages 7 to 11 will love this self-guided program, but younger guests will also be able to enjoy the activities with adult support. This program is free with admission; advance timed tickets are recommended to reserve your spot.

Saturday, January 30: Cold-Blooded Creatures
Investigate the cold-blooded creatures that inhabit our dioramas, and learn what adaptations help them survive the winter. Take home a craft kit to make your own cozy turtle shell backpack, and have a cool time with your whole family.
Saturday, February 20: Animal Families
Explore the animal families in depicted in our dioramas and learn how they stick together in their early lives. Take home a craft kit to make your own family photo frame!
Saturday, March 20: Wild Waters
Explore the wild world of water. Learn how water affects the animals in the museum. Take home a craft kit to make your own water art, and have a splashing good time with your whole family.
Saturday and Sunday, April 24-25: Earth and Water Festival
Investigate earth and water as you learn about ways to conserve resources to help the habitats found in the dioramas. Take home a craft kit to make a useful item out of recycled materials, and have an environmental adventure with your whole family.
Saturday, May 15: Fine Feathered Friends
Investigate the feathered friends found in the dioramas, and learn what makes them so unique. Take home a craft kit to create your own fine feathered friend, and flock together to have a fun time with your whole family.
Saturday, June 5: Shells and Shores
Explore the shores and shells you find in the museum, and learn what unique adaptations water creatures have that help them to survive in their habitat. Take home a craft kit to create your own shelled creature as you have a shell-ebration with your whole family.
