A Turtle’s Skull
Concluding week two of Three Weeks Behind the Scenes is none other than a turtle skull. LeRoy H. Saxe Jr. collected this skull of a loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) in 1948 during the Catherwood-Chaplin West Indies Expedition. Listed as an endangered species, loggerhead sea turtles are found in the tropical and temperate regions of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans as well as in the Mediterranean Sea.
Check back to 200 Stories tomorrow for another skull photograph!
