Malacology Resources

Ongoing Projects

Alcohol rehousing project: An NSF-funded project to rehouse and inventory the entire Malacology fluid-preserved collection in equipment of a new design.

Type imaging project: An NSF-funded project to locate and verify type lots in the Malacology collection and image all primary types. The images are searchable through the on-line Malacology collection database.

Electronic inventory: The first full inventory of the collection in 40 years, based on a comprehensive systematic revision and providing an up-to-date online identification for every lot.

Callomon; Taxonomy of the gastropod genus Fusinus: Long-term collaborative review of the marine gastropod genus Fusinus in various parts of the world, with Dr. M. A. Snyder and W. G. Lyons.

Callomon; Development of imaging equipment: Development and prototyping of static and 3D-motion specimen mounts (Holds US patent for robotic 3D mount developed with Drexel University Department of Engineering). Development of standard protocols for imaging mollusks.
