Teacher and layman entomologist, Fall collected intensively in the orders Coleoptera and Lepidoptera and by exchange of specimens finally amassed one of the best private collections of beetles. This collection included over a thousand new species. With his correspondence and notebooks, it was bequeathed to the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard. Our manuscript material includes two lists of his correspondents to whom reprints were mailed, one dated 1905 the other 1913; and five other lists which refer to insects, namely (1) Coleoptera collected by Viereck in New Mexico, 1906 (2) Types of Rhyncophora in his private collection, 1913 (3) Desiderata of H. C. Fall, following the list of Smith, Lepidoptera listed by name (4) List similar to the foregoing but mentioned by number only, 1913 (5) List of Arctiidae and Noctuidae possessed by Fall. Eighty letters close the series and deal with matters pertaining to the collection, the exchange and published descriptions of Coleoptera and Lepidoptera.
