In 1897 Mrs. Francis A. W. Shimer bequeathed to the American Entomological Society about 1,200 acres of land in Swisher County, Texas, in accordance with a wish of her late husband, Henry Shimer, a former member of the Society. This collection contains material dealing with this transaction, including ultimate sale of the land by the Society, the proceeds of which were added to their library fund. There are wills, deeds, agreements and extensive correspondence between officers of the Society—particularly E. T. Cresson and Philip P. Calvert—and attorneys and executors of the estate.
