At the age of 12, the author began this dictionary, giving an alphabetical listing of plants by their common names, and describing each, with field notes for some and a few drawings. The first manuscript notes were on small-sized sheets, later ones on sheets, 18 × 21 cm. and finally some were on charts of a folio size.

Gift of the author, who kept them with his family papers to bequeath to the Academy in 1961.
