<p>Belfrage, a Swede by birth came to America, living first on the East Coast, stopping for a year or so in Chicago and eventually arriving in Texas in 1867. He published little himself but was a famous collector of insects and
at one time advertised an exchange collection of 25,000 specimens. Many of these were sent home to Sweden but the estate of Belfrage sold the collection in Texas after his death and it was purchased by the U. S. National Museum. Because of his exchange of material and his correspondence and collecting with E. T. Cresson we have many examples of his types as also has the Museum of Comparative Zoology in Cambridge. E. T. Cresson's book on the <emph render="italic">Hymenoptera of Texas </emph>was based largely on Belfrage's collection.</p>
