This priest ambassador of Portugal to the U. S. was a resident member of the Academy, having been elected in February, 1814, and took an active part in its botanical interests throughout his sojourn here. This report of the Academy's Committee on Botanical Lectures for the Ladies of Philadelphia is signed jointly with Reuben Haines. The document gives formal thanks to John Barnes and Dr. Waterhouse for conducting the lectures.
