<p>Gustav Brander's <emph render="italic">Fossilia Hantoniensia </emph>of 43 pages and 9 plates was published in 1766, and reprinted by W. Wood in 1829. The revisionary notes, in part, and the figures in the present collection have been assigned to Wood through the implication in an annotation on one of the manuscript plates: &#8220;This scrap represents some of our shells for an additional page for Brander. The one marked * would have gone to Sowerby had he not figured it [in] his last number.&#8221; In the same hand on the half title-page appears &#8220;Sold by Lowndes 2.2.0 Dr. Cooke's copy with his ms. additions&#8221;.</p>
<p>The 11-page list of figures and some other notes, ending with, &#8220;in 1818 I saw a copy of Brander's Hampshire Fossils sold at King's auction room for 2-4-0. The original price was eight or six shillings&#8221; may have been prepared by the former owner, Dr. Cooke. Another memorandum on the back endpaper states, &#8220;Rajah Tarangini, H. of Cashmir, Pala? 1835.&#8221;</p>
