<p>A Scotsman member of the Academy from 1857 and a member of the Committee on Ornithology for many years. He purchased Alexander Wilson's effects during that time and accumulated a fine collection of birds, while writing his book <emph render="italic">The Birds of East Pennsylvania and New Jersey. </emph>These [UNK] were later given to the Academy by E. D. Cope who procured them from Bernard Hoopes. The short undated note is addressed to B. A. Hoopes, Committee of Ornithology, and accompanied his small unillustrated edition of the above mentioned text, 1869, in which it is inserted. The volume is inscribed to the Academy by the author and dated, Christmas 1868.</p>
