<p>A French zoologist, particularly noted for his studies on conchology, both recent and fossil, Blainville was actively engaged in research until his death in 1850. This outline of his dissertation is written, in part, as marginal notations and additions to his published work: <emph render="italic">Propositions. Extraits d'un Essai sur la Respiration, </emph>and in part, written on a special sheet of paper tipped above the title on p. 5. While these notes are not signed, the heading leads one to assign them to Blainville. Also compared to the signed letter of Blainville in the library of the American Philosophical Society, dated 1827, it seems fairly certain to be his. Another example of his handwriting appears on his <emph render="italic">Memoire sur les Belemites... </emph>1827, which is inscribed to M. de Roissy, but in this case is much freer and of a larger size, but the characteristic letters seem to match.</p>
<p>Found in one of the bound copies of the Academy's collection of Anatomy and Physiology Tracts, in 1961. When it came to the Academy has not been established.</p>
