During his Third Expedition, this time to Siam and north, de Schauensee, primarily an ornithologist, collected fishes for the Academy as a special favor to H. W. Fowler. A fieldbook record of the list, with dates and localities was kept, with 4237 specimens noted. A rough pencil map of the localities involved was included at the back of the book and a short letter written to Fowler was pasted in the front. Fowler says these fish never reached Philadelphia. “The stevedores in New York Harbor drank the alcohol and dumped the specimens overboard.” De Schauensee again collected fishes on his next trip to Siam, in 1936, to replace the lost specimens. Some few notes are in an unidentified hand, a few others made by Fowler.
