<scopecontent>
<p>Physician to the military school at Strasbourg and entomologist by avocation, Seriziat worked out and offered to Academy members the results of his experiments in transferring the scales from wings of Lepidoptera to paper in such a way as to have an actual replica of the insect for illustrative purposes rather than having a picture engraved. This was done in 1867, thirty years before Sherman S. Denton prepared and published his book using the same principle to portray his Lepidoptera. The letter has samples of the replicas of four insects on little squares of paper pasted on the second leaf.</p>
