At the age of 16 Jones began a journal of his field work in Lepidoptera, this being the year before he graduated from High School. No significant break in the recording of Lepidopterous catches is noticed in his journals which end in September 1959. His collections of general Lepidoptera and his cabinet of bagworms and their moths were extensive and have been variously deposited in the museums of the U. S. National Museum, Boston Museum of Natural History, Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, the University of Delaware and the Delaware Society of Natural History.

Papers include Journals and Reports of regional biological studies, especially in the field of Lepidoptera, resulting in lists for Delaware and for Martha's Vineyard, where Jones spent summers for many years. He published on concealing coloration and on insect food preferences of birds. His contributions to the knowledge of pitcher plants and other carnivouous plants and their associated insects are outstanding. Various details of his personal biography and some personalia complete the papers.
