Geologist, mineralogist and botanist, specializing in mycology, this scientist lived most of his active life in Delaware, where he was associated with Delaware College, the Agricultural experiment station and with local societies. An original map of his published treatise on Delaware geology is preserved, bound in the Academy's official copy of its Proceedings, v. 36, plate 5, 1884.
