<p>Primarily an ornithologist specializing in systematics, ecology and geographical distribution. His wide interest in conservation, made him most useful in the positions held in the U. S. Bureau of Biological Survey, the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife and more recently in the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. These letters are all addressed to Witmer Stone and concern, chiefly, [UNK] efforts as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Nomenclature, to prepare the American Ornithologists' Union's <emph render="italic">Check-list of North American birds, 4th ed.</emph></p>
