“Original manuscript of Say's article `Conchology' in the American edition of Nicholson's British Cyclopedia” is inked on flyleaf. Internal evidence identifies this manuscript as that of the first American edition, 1816, although the wording of the preliminary leaf is not exactly like that of the published text. A copy of Say's portrait which hangs in the Academy's Library, is added as a frontispiece.
