An early resident member of the Academy (listed with members present on July 20, 1813), Mr. Bishop's name does not appear very often in the Minutes. On September 7, 1813 he presided at the meeting; on April 11, 1814 he read a lecture on vitrification illustrated by specimens and experiments; on March 21, 1815 it is noted that Mr. T. Bishop presented an engraved portrait of our deceased fellow member Alexander Wilson, a volume of plates of chemical apparatus, and the form of a French hospital register. At the next meeting, March 28, 1815, T. Bishop performed the duty of his appointment by describing an improved Wolf's apparatus, the text of which with one original illustration has been preserved in our collection. The paper itself was preceded by a short description of a permanent ink for use in labeling specimens. We also have the presentation note by Thomas Bishop written in the inside of the cover of the volume of chemical plates. Apparently the
paper on Wolf's apparatus was never published by the Academy. Gift of the author, 1815.
