<p>On February 4, 1899, a meeting was held at the Academy to organize an association of those interested in the study of the moss flora of the vicinity. At the second meeting, a week later, the name &#8220;Philadelphia Moss Chapter&#8221; was adopted, and officers elected: President A. F. K. Krout, Recording Secretary and treasurer, Alexander McElwee, and Corresponding secretary, Josephine B. Lowe.</p>
<p>The original leather-bound volume contains a laid-in letter signed by A. F. K. Krout, 1899.</p>
