<p>Selected letters from a volume of Canby's general botanical correspondence, the property of the Society of Natural History of Delaware, and in 1951 housed in the Wilmington Institute Free Library at Wilmington, Del.</p>
<p>Businessman, civic minded scholar and banker, with an avocation in the field of botany, he spent many years collecting, exchanging and studying plants. His special interest was in preparing a flora of Delaware and nearby regions. He maintained a wide correspondence with colleagues, of which the originals are in large part preserved by the Society of Natural History of Delaware. His extensive collections were purchased by the College of Pharmacy, New York City.</p>
