Formerly the zoological interests of the Academy were divided simply as the Vertebrate and Invertebrate Departments, the first under Witmer Stone and the latter under Henry A. Pilsbry. Under the regime of Charles M. B. Cadwalader, these categories were broken down into smaller departments such as Birds, Fishes, Mammals, Shells, Insects, etc., each with its curator. At this time Stone became the curator of birds.

This collection consists of memoranda, correspondence, lists of birds, reports on collections, birds lacking in Academy collections, notes on labels in the collections, recommendation of curators, application to form an Ornithological Section, an annual report of the Bird Department for 1935,<note>

Papers [UNK] to [UNK] [UNK] Bird Atlas (1989-1995), and a collection of [UNK] Bond's correspondence as [UNK]
