The ledgers fall into two classes, those headed, “ANSP. in account with... treasurer”, and those which record the day to day financial statements and transactions. It was the custom for the treasurer to pay the bills and then collect from the Academy. In the first ledgers are the members' accounts for dues, etc., and records of the condition of many special funds, some of which were established early in the Academy's history. The first group consists of seven bound volumes and 18 loose pieces. The loose pieces take in those years not covered by the bound volumes with 1863 lacking. The second series, four in number, 1860-90, are all prepared by William C. Henszey as treasurer. Inside the front cover of the 1877-84 volume are listed the 13 special funds of those years, while the 1885-90 volume lists the 18 funds for later years.
