Swiss botanist and conchologist, whose full name was Moise Étienne Moricand, active member, treasurer and secretary of the Museum of Geneva. Started an early commercial career in Italy, 1791, his avocation to study and collect natural history specimens. On his return to Geneva he studied botany at the urging of De-Candolle; made a connection with M. Blanchet at Bahia, from whom he received plants and shells of Brazil. The Academy's holdings consist of holographic copies of two papers and one letter to John S. Phillips, 1829. The first is a transcript including the plates of Andreas Johann Wagner's “Testaceae fluviatilia quae in itinere per Brasiliam annis 1817-1820.” The second, lacking the plate, is a rough draft of Moricand's “Memoires sur quelques coquilles fluviatiles et terrestres d'Amerique”, written in a different hand from the signed letter.
