Paleontologist, interested especially in vertebrate fossils from the Rocky Mountain Region. He was a corresponding member of the Academy and collaborated with E. D. Cope in many of his scientific undertakings. These plates drawn by F. Berger and lithoprinted by E. Crisand, New Haven, were published only in part. Those appearing in print illustrate various U.S. Geological Survey publications. Osborn stated: “For the four monographs on the Stegosauria, Suropoda, Ceratopsia and Brontotheridae [which are groups pictured in this collection] 204 superb lithographic plates were completed under Marsh's direction.” A note in the handwriting of William J. Fox accompanies the collection. “Said to be a complete set of unpublished plates of Marsh and Cope on Fossil vertebrata.”
