From its establishment, June 20, 1876, to its dissolution by the revised bylaws of the Academy in 1924, the section was a busy one. Its activities give a continuous history of the interest in botanical subjects in the area during the years of its existence (affiliations, meetings, public lectures, field trips, collections and library). The Section was not replaced by the Dept. of Botany since the two existed side by side for several years. Its five officers were a Director, a Recorder, a Treasurer, a Secretary and a Conservator.

This collection of papers was preserved in the Dept. of Botany, having been donated in part from papers of its officers. Archived in 1958.
