The four volumes include records of the Corresponding Secretaries, Harrison Allen, Edward D. Cope, Reuben Haines, Walter R. Johnson and Samuel G. Morton. The period 1814-73. The series is not complete, with some overlapping dates. Included are transcripts, resumés and notations of dates and addresses to whom letters were written. The transcripts in all amount to 121, whereas the total number of cards placed in our recipients file adds to 1406. While the same information was reported to the meetings of the Academy each week, apparently this series of letterbooks represents the official record of the correspondence with the Academy. The material was annually published after 1840 in the Proceedings but even there it was not completely listed.
