The society was founded in 1892 as the Student's Mineralogical Club, in 1901 its name changed to the Philadelphia Mineralogical Club and in 1917 its final change to the above. The Proceedings have been published in the American Mineralogist, from vol. 1, 1916 to 32, 1946. Abstracts of important talks given in the society are currently published in the periodical Rocks and Minerals. The most significant item is a list of the members for 1948, a typed list six pages long. The society has always been closely associated with the Academy and in recent years held its meetings in this building where most of its donated minerals are housed.
