Philip L. Leidy was desirous of having a definitive biography written of his great-uncle Prof. Joseph Leidy. Dr. Dolley, one of the few students of Leidy still living, in 1933 undertook the work which was financed by the Leidy family. It was done at the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia, in Nassau, in Japan or on shipboard en route around the world. The papers here preserved reveal the arrangements between Philip L. Leidy and Dolley, with much correspondence about the progress of the biography. A rough draft of Dolley's reminiscences of the days of 1872-73 when he first met Prof. Leidy was prepared, with a bibliography of Leidy's published works, both of which are contained in this collection.
