Explore your world and have a blast this summer at the Academy of Natural Sciences! You might meet living backyard dinosaurs (you call them birds), get the behind-the-scenes scoop during a tour of North American Hall, join fellow Lego-lovers and build buggy and dino-inspired creations, or share a belly laugh with Marty the Moose during story-telling time. With your Backyard Adventures admission ticket, you can even make your own seed bombs and binoculars to take home! Many tours and activities are free with admission. No reservation needed unless otherwise noted!

2:30 at the T. rex

Meet a backyard dinosaur (you call it a bird) at the T. rex and learn how dinosaurs still live among us.

Invertebrate Cart

Every Tuesday and Sunday, all day

Use cutting-edge technology to explore the miniature world of everyone’s favorite backyard bugs at this interactive cart featuring live arachnids.

Science Now: Backyard Dinosaurs

Did you know that birds are the closest living relatives of dinosaurs? Birds are an important part of our local ecosystem and can be seen throughout the Philadelphia region. Stop by Science Now to discover more about the modern dinosaurs that live in our backyards. 

Thursdays with Marty
Every Thursday starting July 6, 1 p.m.
Free with admission

Marty the Moose loves nothing more than a story time spent entertaining the crowds with his terrible jokes and goofy sense of humor. Join Marty and his favorite humans to hear a special story and meet a live animal. 

North American Hall Tours
July 7-August 25

Join us as we tour the backyards of North America and investigate the amazing stories and mysteries behind the animals and creators of our dioramas. 

Dino Brick Club: Bugging Out!

Hang out with fellow LEGO-lovers and build dinosaur and bug-inspired creations. 

Make and Takes

Seed Bombs and Binoculars - Make your own real working binoculars to explore the creatures in your own backyard. Make and take wildflower clay seed bombs to grow in your backyard garden.

9–10 a.m.

Join us for some Kids Club fun before the Academy opens! Complete fun dino activities, have a snack, and hang with Eddie, the Academy's official T. rex mascot. Make sure to bring your Kids Club membership card to receive a stamp!

Bug Fest
August 12–13, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

We’re taking the weekend off from Dino Hall Tours, Brick Club, and Make and Takes for our annual celebration of insects! Talk with real scientists, learn about insects from all over the world, and see specimens from the Academy’s behind-the-scenes collections.
