Experience the Academy’s towering dinosaurs—including T. rex—after dark! Your action-packed night at the museum barely leaves room for shut-eye.

Night in the Museum is perfect for scout groups, birthday parties, kids’ clubs, sports team retreats, and more.

  • Pick your sleeping spot next to lions, tigers, or dinosaurs.
  • Go on a scavenger hunt, do a hands-on experiment, or inspect some not-so-creepy crawlies.
  • Explore every corner of the Academy’s famous exhibits, including our live butterfly garden and dinosaur bone dig.
  • Enjoy a fascinating live animal show.
  • Hang out with your fellow explorers, and enjoy delicious snacks.
  • Waking up early? A light breakfast and another whole day to explore the museum await.

Dinos After Dark

Go on an ancient adventure during this special Night in the Museum! See Tiny Titans: Dinosaur Eggs and Babies like you’ve never seen it before on a flashlight tour, show off your paleo-skills during hands-on games and activities, and jacket your own fossil to take home. Experience our eggs-cellent special exhibit before it leaves the Academy on January 15!

Overnights with a big overbite!! Enjoy all the great activities of our Night in the Museum programs and get a chance to see what the special stars of our special exhibit Crocs are up to after the sun goes down. It’s sure to be a night with these nocturnal critters that you won’t soon forget!

Schedule a Private Overnight

Can’t make it to our public overnights? Do you have a specific date in mind? Develop your guest list and contact us to reserve the museum just for your own private group of 100 to 300. Contact reservations@ansp.org or 215-299-1060 for more information.

Time:
6:30 pm to 9 am; Check-in is 6:30–7 pm.
Ages:
Night in the Museum is appropriate for children ages 6–14.
One adult is required per three children.
Fees:
  • $60 for members
  • $65 for non-members
  • $89 for VIP (Very Important Paleontologist) Tickets (see below for details)

VIP Tickets - Sleep beneath our famous T. rex in a reserved space just for you! In addition to this very special sleeping spot, VIP Guests will receive an Academy t-shirt and patch, as well as an Academy dinosaur pin to commemorate your stay. A limited number of these tickets are available each event; please call for availability.

Full payment is due upon registration. Final numbers and balance must be submitted at least three weeks prior to your overnight date.

Sample Schedule for Night in the Museum

Evening:

6:30–7 pm
Check-in
Friendly staff will greet you, and you’ll have a chance to drop off your sleeping gear before you begin your exciting night.
7–7:10 pm
Orientation
Get the run down on the fun planned for the evening, plus all the info you’ll need for the event. Meet your fellow overnighters and get set for adventure!
7:15–8:30 pm
Open Exploration
Explore all your favorite exhibits after dark and experience special activities that might include:
  • What Was That Noise?
    Think you know what goes on in the woods overnight? Get up close and personal with nocturnal animal specimens from our very own collections.
  • Diorama Drawing
    Ever thought our dioramas could use a little something extra? Test your creativity by adding your very own artwork to our famous dioramas.
  • Crafts
    Create your very own Academy Overnight eye mask! Perfect for raptor-naps or a museum sleepover!
  • Glow Room
    Find out what’s deep in the abyss, discover what makes fireflies amazing, and explore how organisms make their own light through chemical reactions.
  • Dinosaur Flashlight Self-Guided Tours
    See Dinosaur Hall in an all new light—from flashlights!
  • Dynamic Dissections
    We know what the outside of an animal looks like, but what about the inside? Discover the amazing internal parts of animals and learn how museum scientists gain insight into the animal world.
  • Not-So-Creepy Crawlies
    Meet live invertebrates! Touch a beetle, hold a cockroach, and see a tarantula scurry.
  • Scavenger Hunts
    Think you know all about the Academy? Test your knowledge with our fun scavenger hunts.

Refuel with a snack with your fellow explorers.

More time to visit all of our exhibits.
